Had Enough of Kidney Stones?

In addition to drinking plenty of water, what you eat is also important in reducing your risk of getting another stone. Try to limit your consumption of sugary foods and high fructose drinks. Limiting the amount of animal protein and increasing the amount of fresh fruit and vegetables will also help. Lastly, reduce excess salt in your diet by decreasing salty snacks, processed meats and pre-packaged meals. Excess salt can increase your risk of developing another kidney stone. To further decrease the chance of getting another kidney stone, limit your vitamin C supplementation to less than 500mg per day. Excess vitamin C supplementation has been linked to an increase in kidney stone formation. On the other hand, some supplements have been shown to decrease the risk of stone formation. They include but are not limited to: magnesium citrate and potassium citrate, phytic acid, calcium, vitamin B 6, vitamin E, and catechins (found in green tea and green tea extract).
